Choosing accommodation online takes only a few seconds. Long before guests read the description or browse the reviews, they look at the photographs. Those first images decide whether they continue exploring the listing or move on to another property. That is why professional Airbnb photography is not simply about creating beautiful images. It is about creating trust.

When I photograph a short-term rental, my goal goes far beyond documenting the space. Every image should present the property honestly while revealing its atmosphere, functionality, and personality.  The photographs are created for the people searching for their next trip and for the booking platforms that reward listings able to capture attention and keep visitors engaged.

Rezervarea unei cazări începe cu mult înainte ca oaspetele să deschidă ușa apartamentului. Totul începe cu fotografiile. În doar câteva secunde, acestea decid dacă un potențial oaspete continuă să exploreze anunțul sau trece la următoarea proprietate. De aceea, fotografia profesională pentru Airbnb nu înseamnă doar imagini frumoase. Înseamnă încredere.

Atunci când fotografiez o proprietate destinată închirierii în regim hotelier, scopul meu depășește simpla documentare a spațiului. Fiecare imagine trebuie să prezinte locuința într-un mod autentic, evidențiind atmosfera, funcționalitatea și personalitatea acesteia. Imaginile sunt realizate pentru oamenii care își caută următoarea cazare și pentru platformele de rezervări care promovează anunțurile capabile să atragă atenția și să mențină interesul vizitatorilor.

Over the years, I have heard the same story from many property owners. Investing in professional photography is rarely just about one apartment. Instead, it often reflects a much bigger ambition. Many owners want to improve the quality of their accommodation, grow their portfolio, and build a hospitality business that stands out from the competition. Professional photography simply becomes one of the first visible signs of that commitment.

The difference between professional photography and smartphone images is not only technical. Photography is the very first conversation between a property and a potential guest. If that first impression communicates care, quality, and attention to detail, trust begins to grow before a single review is read. On the other hand, rushed or poorly executed photographs can unintentionally suggest that the same lack of care exists in communication, cleanliness, maintenance, or the overall guest experience. Since every booking is built on trust, visual presentation becomes one of the strongest influences on the final decision.

De-a lungul anilor, am auzit aceeași poveste din partea multor proprietari. Alegerea fotografiei profesionale rareori are legătură doar cu un singur apartament. De cele mai multe ori, ea reflectă o ambiție mai mare. Mulți își doresc să ridice standardul proprietăților lor, să își dezvolte portofoliul și să construiască o afacere în domeniul ospitalității care să iasă în evidență. În acest context, fotografia profesională devine unul dintre primele semne vizibile ale acestei viziuni.

Diferența dintre fotografiile profesionale și cele realizate cu telefonul nu este doar una tehnică. Fotografia reprezintă primul dialog dintre o proprietate și un viitor oaspete. Dacă prima impresie transmite grijă, calitate și atenție la detalii, încrederea începe să se construiască înainte ca descrierea sau recenziile să fie citite. În schimb, imaginile realizate în grabă pot sugera, chiar și fără intenție, că aceeași lipsă de atenție există și în comunicare, curățenie, întreținere sau experiența oferită oaspeților. Cum fiecare rezervare se bazează pe încredere, prezentarea vizuală devine unul dintre cei mai importanți factori în procesul de alegere.

I notice this every time I travel myself. Photography is always my starting point when searching on Airbnb or Booking.com. Even when I begin with a fixed budget, exceptional images sometimes convince me to spend a little more. Once a property captures my attention, I continue by checking the nightly rate, guest reviews, Superhost status, and finally practical details such as self check-in. Especially during business trips, the freedom to arrive at any hour without coordinating with the host adds significant value to the experience.

After opening a listing, my attention naturally moves through the property in a specific order. I always start with the living room because it usually defines the atmosphere of the entire home. Next comes the kitchen, where I look for functionality and equipment. Then I move to the bedroom and bathroom. Interestingly, photographs of the city itself rarely influence my decision. Instead, I want to understand the place where I will actually spend my time. If there is a balcony or terrace, the view becomes an important part of that experience.

Observ acest lucru de fiecare dată când călătoresc. Fotografiile reprezintă întotdeauna primul criteriu atunci când caut o cazare pe Airbnb sau Booking.com. Chiar dacă pornesc cu un buget clar stabilit, imaginile excepționale mă conving uneori să îl depășesc. După ce o proprietate îmi atrage atenția, verific prețul pe noapte, recenziile, statutul de Superhost și, în final, detalii practice precum posibilitatea de self check-in. Mai ales în călătoriile de business, libertatea de a ajunge la orice oră, fără să depind de programul gazdei, adaugă un plus important întregii experiențe.

După ce deschid un anunț, atenția mea urmează aproape întotdeauna același traseu. Încep cu livingul, deoarece acesta definește, de regulă, atmosfera întregii locuințe. Apoi analizez bucătăria pentru a înțelege cât este de practică și bine echipată. După aceea urmează dormitorul și baia. În schimb, fotografiile generale ale orașului îmi influențează foarte puțin decizia. Prefer să înțeleg spațiul în care voi petrece timpul. Iar dacă proprietatea dispune de balcon sau terasă, priveliștea completează imaginea experienței pe care o voi avea.

Choosing the right photographer is just as important as preparing the property itself. A photographer who specialises in interiors and architecture understands how to control natural and artificial light, preserve accurate colours, manage reflections, and correct perspective without making a space look artificial. Most guests will never notice these technical details. However, they immediately notice how the photographs make them feel. That feeling often shapes their perception of quality before they read a single word.

Professional photography also plays an important role in building a property’s reputation over time. Beautiful images alone will not earn Superhost status or guarantee more bookings. However, they create a strong first impression that encourages potential guests to explore the listing further. Combined with excellent communication, positive reviews, and a memorable guest experience, professional photographs become part of a consistent brand. As a result, they can support higher nightly rates and attract travellers who value quality rather than simply searching for the lowest price.

La fel de importantă este și alegerea fotografului. Un fotograf specializat în fotografie de interior și arhitectură știe cum să controleze lumina naturală și artificială, să păstreze culorile fidele, să gestioneze reflexiile și să corecteze perspectivele fără ca spațiul să pară artificial. Majoritatea oaspeților nu vor observa conștient aceste detalii tehnice. Totuși, vor observa imediat felul în care fotografiile îi fac să se simtă. Iar această emoție influențează percepția asupra calității înainte ca ei să citească primul cuvânt din descriere.

Fotografiile profesionale contribuie și la construirea reputației unei proprietăți în timp. Ele nu garantează obținerea statutului de Superhost și nici nu asigură automat mai multe rezervări. Totuși, creează o primă impresie puternică, care îi determină pe potențialii oaspeți să descopere mai departe anunțul. Împreună cu o comunicare excelentă, recenzii pozitive și o experiență memorabilă oferită oaspeților, fotografiile devin parte din identitatea proprietății. În timp, ele pot susține tarife mai ridicate și pot atrage călători care apreciază calitatea, nu doar cel mai mic preț.

If there is one piece of advice I would give every Airbnb owner, it is this: never think of professional photography as a short-term expense. Furniture, decorations, curtains, and accessories will eventually be replaced. Great photographs, however, continue working for years. They help create stronger first impressions, improve the perceived value of the property, and support long-term business growth. Their real value is measured in the bookings they generate, not in the invoice issued after the photo session.

There is, however, one final detail that is often overlooked. A successful photo session begins long before the photographer arrives. The property should already be clean, organised, and fully prepared. Fresh flowers, carefully arranged cushions, neatly folded blankets, table settings, books, and decorative objects all help create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. When everything is ready in advance, the entire session can focus on creativity instead of preparation. That allows the photographer to work with the best light, refine every composition, and tell a visual story that feels both authentic and inviting.

Dacă aș putea oferi un singur sfat fiecărui proprietar care închiriază în regim hotelier, acesta ar fi să nu privească fotografia profesională ca pe o cheltuială pe termen scurt. Mobilierul, decorațiunile, perdelele sau accesoriile vor fi înlocuite, mai devreme sau mai târziu. Fotografiile de calitate, însă, continuă să lucreze pentru proprietate ani la rând. Ele contribuie la o primă impresie mai puternică, cresc valoarea percepută a locuinței și susțin dezvoltarea afacerii pe termen lung. Valoarea lor reală nu se măsoară în costul ședinței foto, ci în rezervările pe care le generează în timp.

Există însă un ultim detaliu despre care se vorbește prea puțin. O sesiune foto reușită începe cu mult înainte ca fotograful să ajungă la locație. Proprietatea ar trebui să fie deja curată, organizată și complet pregătită. Florile proaspete, pernele aranjate cu grijă, păturile împăturite, masa pregătită sau obiectele decorative contribuie la crearea unei atmosfere primitoare. Atunci când toate aceste detalii sunt pregătite din timp, întreaga sesiune se poate concentra pe creativitate, nu pe organizare. Astfel, fotograful își poate dedica atenția celei mai bune lumini, celor mai potrivite încadrări și construirii unei povești vizuale autentice.

At the end of the day, guests do not book photographs. They book the feeling those photographs create. Long before they unlock the front door, they have already imagined themselves enjoying their morning coffee, relaxing after a long journey, or waking up in a space that feels comfortable and welcoming. Professional photography makes that first experience possible. It transforms a listing into a destination, builds trust before arrival, and becomes one of the strongest investments in a property’s long-term success.

La final, oaspeții nu rezervă fotografii. Ei rezervă sentimentul pe care fotografiile îl creează. Cu mult înainte să descuie ușa apartamentului, ei și-au imaginat deja cum își beau cafeaua dimineața, cum se relaxează după o zi lungă sau cum se trezesc într-un spațiu confortabil și primitor. Fotografia profesională face posibilă această primă experiență. Ea transformă un simplu anunț într-o destinație, construiește încredere înainte de sosire și devine una dintre cele mai valoroase investiții în succesul pe termen lung al unei proprietăți.
